The Creative Curriculum
We follow the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and the Maryland Model for School Readiness. We have chosen to use Creative Curriculum which is an awards winning research based curriculum. See how it aligns to the standards here.
Build children’s confidence, creativity, and critical thinking skills through hands-on, project-based investigations. Promote discovery and inquiry with opportunities for children to think critically and develop process skills with rich, hands-on investigations of relevant and interesting topics in the classroom. Reinforce learning with family-friendly activities designed for home.
Individualize instruction by understanding how children’s abilities progress and supporting them with unique color-coded progressions that show the typical development of skills from birth through third grade.

More about Quality Ratings
There are two main rating systems in the State of Maryland. The first is Maryland Excels who recognizes programs for their commitment to high-quality child care and early education. Quality ratings are available to families to help them make informed choices in the care and education of their children. There are five levels to the Maryland Excels rating system. Roots Learning Center is currently at a Level 4 in Maryland Excels. We are at the highest level except for reaching national accreditation and we are awaiting an evaluator for the last step in that process (we are on the schedule).
The Maryland Credential System is another rating system in Maryland. It recognizes child care providers for exceeding the requirements of State licensing regulations. It is a career ladder that directs an individual to build knowledge and skills in a cumulative manner from introductory training to advanced level education. The progression of professional development reflects research and best practices to meet the needs of infants and toddlers, and preschool and school age children. There are 6 total levels and our lead teacher is credentialed at a level 6.
